Thunderbird

Download Thunderbird at www.mozilla.org.

Once you have downloaded the file to your computer, click on Thunderbird Setup to begin the installation. When Thunderbird has been installed, you will be taken to the account page.

From Thunderbird, click on File/New/Account and check 'Email account'. Click on Next.

In the first screen of the Account Wizard, you can enter whatever you want to prepend your actual SecureNym address (ie a nickname). You should enter your SecureNym account name, followed by @securenym.net as the Email Address. Click Next.

The next screen is where the account configuration differs between POP3 and IMAP. Change the type of incoming server from POP3 to IMAP if IMAP is not already selected. The Incoming Server: MUST be www.securenym.net. Click Next.

For Incoming User Name; enter your SecureNym account name (do NOT add @securenym.net). Click Next.

For Account Name, you can enter anything you want, such as SecureNym-IMAP. This is what will appear in Thunderbird as your SecureNym account. No one else will ever see this. Click Next, then Finish.

You're not done yet, however. Click on Tools/Account Settings. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the Accounts list on the left side of the window and select Outgoing Server. If you do not see smtp.securenym.net in the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings, you will need to click on 'Add'. (If you do see smtp.securenym.net, you should skip this step.)

When the SMTP Server window opens, you can enter whatever you want for Description, or nothing at all. The Server Name: MUST be smtp.securenym.net. Enable 'Use name and password' and enter your SecureNym user name. Under Use secure connection, you MUST enable SSL. When you do so, the port number should also change to 465. Click OK to close the Outgoing Server window.

Now you need to select the account profile you just created from the listing on the left of the screen, then select 'Server Settings' which appears immediately below the account profile name.

The Server Type: should show IMAP Mail Server. The Server Name: MUST be www.securenym.net. The User Name: MUST be your SecureNym account name. Under 'Use secure connection:' enable SSL. This should change the port from 143 to 993. No other options should be enabled.

Click OK to save the changes, and you're done.

Close Thunderbird, restart, and you should be ready to go.
